Get to know me

Hello lovely visitor, I’m Sonia!

I am the founder and director of ‘Dance with Sonia Brown’; a dance school specialising in classes for adults, and in particular, for those seeking a beginner or low-impact alternative to ballet, tap and jazz.

Since DWSB was founded in 2019, we have been lucky enough to feature on both the BBC South and ITV news, perform for the late Queen Elizabeth II in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, and become a finalist in the One Dance UK People’s Choice Awards 2022. My ethos is that anyone can dance. Whatever your age, size, gender, dance experience or physical capability, we can make dance work for you!

A little about my background… Having grown up in Reading, I love being involved in the local dance community. I have taught in the area as a freelance dance practitioner for over 15 years during which I have coordinated the annual Thatcham Festival Dance Gala and project-managed various arts events for Thatcham Town Council.

I am currently studying a Master's Degree in Dance Education at the Royal Academy of Dance. I have successfully attained a PGCE with distinction having completed my first year. My professional training prior to this includes a two-year foundation degree at Bird College Conservatoire of Dance and Musical Theatre in Sidcup, and a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich. I am also a certified Silver Swans® Licensee.

After graduating from Trinity Laban, I performed as a musical theatre performer. This included touring Spain in a solo performance, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe, and working with local Reading-based theatre company ‘Beautiful Creatures’. My performance background has carried through into my teaching style - I’m often asked ‘where do I get all my energy?’

My aim is for my students to feel fantastic both during and after class, so come along and join us as we have fun, form friendships and feel FABULOUS!
